Cleaning Procedure - Carpet
Homecare Cleaning Services Ltd, prescribes to the following industry standards, PAS 86: 2008 from NCCA (National Carpet Cleaners Association ) in offering the best possible cleaning job.
Pre vacuuming - Thorough vacuuming with powerful vacuums to remove all dry soil - including edges and corners.
Furniture Moving - Utmost care is exercised in moving furniture items to access and clean carpet underneath. Upon careful reposition, moisture resistant tabs or blocks are placed to protect carpet and furniture from moisture damage.
Spotting - Special reagents will be applied where necessary in attempts to remove persistent spots and spills. Specialised spotting may incur an additional charge.
Preconditioning - Application of specifically formulated surfactants to increase soil suspension, thus minimising moisture retention, will be applied to heavily soiled areas.
Thorough Cleaning - All areas are custom cleaned using the finest equipment and cleaning compounds for the removal of maximum soil and care of fibres. All areas are rinsed for maximum soil and cleaning solution removal.
Nap/Pile Setting - A final grooming will aid in restoring the fluff and set of carpet fibres for maximum resilience. It assures faster drying and provides a finished, detail look.
Minimum Dry Time - We will ensure that the carpet is dried and returned to normal use within a reasonable time after cleaning with proper air flow and /or ventilation. Times will vary with the degree of soiling, humidity and temperature. Windows should be left open to assist drying, or heating system switched on after cleaning has finished.

Fabric Care
During Cleaning
I. Spots And Stains: The nature of some spots and stains makes it impossible to restore original colour or texture. At times a stain will appear to be more visible after general cleaning.
II. Worn or Faded Areas: We will exercise special care when handling worn or heavily soiled fabric. These areas may appear more so or appear lighter after cleaning has removed the soil.
III. Unknown Factors: Backing, lining and other materials and processes used in the manufacture of upholstery may produce adverse results in the face materials when cleaned, though not common, there is no way of determining when such results will occur.
IV. Safety: Upholstered furniture that is dry cleaned, should not be used for at lest 24 hours. It is best to maintain maximum ventilation during this time.

Carpet Care
Before Cleaning
I. Remove all breakable items from furniture which will have to be temporarily moved from its regular position to clean the carpet underneath. Insurance regulations do not allow our technicians to move furniture with breakables present.
II. Remove any small pieces of furniture such as dining chairs, magazine racks, coffee tables, etc., from the carpet to be cleaned in order to shorten processing time and return the carpet to normal use as soon as possible.
III. Remove shoes and other items from cupboard carpets and under beds to be cleaned.
Please note that your ability to “make it new again” is limited by the following conditions commonly encountered during all cleaning services.
During Cleaning
I. Spots and Stains: The nature of some spots and stains makes it impossible to restore original colour or texture. At times a stain will appear to be more visible after general cleaning.
II. Apparent Soil: Areas which appear soiled after cleaning, occurs by the abrasive action on fibres which cause a change in appearance. This appearance may show as discolouration in high traffic areas after cleaning.
III. Air Filtration Lines: These dark lines along outer edges and at doorways are a combination of excess soil and discolouration normally penetrating to the backing due to interior airborne particles. This condition CANNOT always be cleaned thoroughly or permanently.
IV. Pet Urine Odour: Normal cleaning may not prevent urine odours from recurring. Deodourising will only neutralise odours. Permanent removal can only occur by elimination of the bacterial source. ( A special program is provided at additional cost at your request )
AFTER CLEANING GUIDELINES
Some simple steps will protect and prolong the enjoyment of your freshly cleaned carpet:
I. Please minimise traffic on the carpet/s and remember walking from a wet carpet onto a hard surface can be very slippery!
II. Your carpet has been protected by the installation of protective foil tabs or foam blocks underneath the legs of wooden or metal furniture. Please do not remove these tabs or blocks until your carpet is completely dry.
III. How long your carpet takes to dry depends upon many things within your indoor environment, including humidity, air movement, the degree of soiling that was within the carpet and your instructions to our technicians. Please refrain from subjecting your carpet to extreme traffic or usage until the carpet is completely dry. Usually between four and eight hours.
IV. Children and pets should be kept off the freshly cleaned carpets.
V. If you had a fabric Scotchgard TM system applied following the cleaning, please allow 24 hours of cure time prior to allowing usage and traffic on the carpet.
VI. Plastic overshoes are provided for your convenience.

How often should carpets be cleaned?
No doubt this question has surfaced at one time or another in the years you have owned carpeting. Information on this subject can vary from person to person - usually based on their level of usage and experience in having their carpet cleaned. We at Homecare have heard some carpet owners express the fear that if their carpet is cleaned it will resoil faster than prior to the time it was first cleaned.
This fear is the result of improper cleaning on the part of many other carpet cleaning companies. Many of these companies, in an effort to cut costs and corners, will not provide a separate rinse step in order to remove detergent residues. If detergent is left in the carpet or upholstery, accelerated resoiling will occur.
We at Homecare uses a more thorough method of cleaning that adds a separate rinse step after a pre spray and agitation program. This method of cleaning removes deep dirt and leaves no detergent to accelerate the resoiling process. The fact is, the best thing you can do for your carpets is to have them regularly cleaned by a qualified professional carpet cleaning company. It is the build-up of dirt and soil that promotes wear to your carpet investment far more than the foot traffic that travels over its surface. Foot traffic only grinds the soil against the fibres and causes them to gradually dull and fall away.
Major carpet fibre manufacturers such as Dupont recommend that you have your carpets professionally cleaned every 8 to 18 months. But other considerations may increase the frequency rate, smoking habits, number and ages of children, soiling conditions, humidity, temperature condition of the outdoor environment, health status of occupants, allergy conditions, number and types of pets and the types of activities being conducted are just a few. Heavily travelled areas may require quarterly cleaning, whereas other less frequented areas may not need cleaning until 24 months. Either way, it makes good sense to have your carpets cleaned regularly - not only from an aesthetic and investment protection point of view, but also because the deep cleaning removes bacteria, germs and the substances upon which these organisms live.

What’s Lurking In Your Carpet?
Big words, but what do they mean? Quite simply, our carpet acts like a sink, it filters and collects sources of soil, bacteria, allergens and pollutants from the indoor environment.
These contaminants are part of what makes your carpet “look bad”. This collection and filtering process allows carpet to trap contaminants within the carpet. Hard surface floors may allow these contaminants to continue to “roam” throughout the indoor environment. But like any filter, your carpet needs to be periodically cleaned out. If these contaminants are in your house, they could be contributing to you and your family’s health and allergy problems. Bacteria, pollutants and allergens trapped in your carpet can contribute to an unhealthy indoor environment.

Dr Thomas Platts-Mills, head of Allergic Medicine at the University of Virginia Medical School, estimates thousands of Doctors and Hospital visits are made each year by patients allergic to biocontaminants (fungi, mites, cockroaches, bacteria). Dr Michael Berry, a leading scientist on environmental health, stated, “Based on what I have learned in recent months from researchers working in the United States, Canada and Western Europe, I have reached the conclusion that carpeting and fabrics not cleaned and properly maintained have the potential to cause a variety of health problems inside the building environment.”

What Do You Do About All Those “Lurking - Things?”
For one thing, periodic vacuuming. Vacuuming can remove a great deal of this soiling. But most vacuum bags allow small particles to pass through them. These released particles tend to build up over time and have the greatest potential to cause harm as they are inhaled deep into the lungs. Many other types of contamination simply cannot be removed by regular vacuuming. That is why it is absolutely essential that you have your carpets periodically cleaned professionally. Professional Carpet Cleaning by the hot water extraction method makes a significant positive contribution to removing these contaminants. Recent tests performed by the Carpet and Rug Institute have demonstrated that professional cleaning can contribute to a reduction in indoor air pollutants.
A Healthier Indoor Environment
Professional carpet cleaning can be an important contribution in maintaining the health of your family’s environment. So don’t delay. Just because your carpet may not look too dirty, it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t need to be cleaned. We look forward to the opportunity of serving you soon.
